The First Draft.
In its entirety, the first draft is all we are.
True life story. I have a mentor, she is every screenwriter’s delight. After writing a screenplay for a short movie, she was the first person I chose to send it to for review. She was so happy. After reading, she sent this heartfelt feedback.
Newsflash: I haven’t gone back to writing the second draft.
The first draft—as the name implies—is the first offering you have from a creative idea. It is the rough state, what we call the diamond in the dirt. It is the most important form of our creativity. Not the ideas, not the exhibition, not the recognition, not the awards—THE FIRST DRAFT.
The first draft isn’t just a creative terminology, it is a life term. As humans, we are the first draft—daily. It’s quite fascinating how everything fits together. Let me explain this, in basic terminology, we are the creative expression of God. God is the Creative here. Conceiving us was the beginning of His process.
In that phase, ideas that pattern our patent were put into motion. You know the way you take out time to flesh out an idea, romanticize it, picturize it, all of that? GOD DID.
It’s why He told Jeremiah, Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. The knowledge all stems from the conception. It’s that same inkling you have when you see someone steal your work, and make it theirs; you had the whole blueprint.
GOD HAS YOUR BLUEPRINT.
That blueprint is what ended up becoming you—HIS FIRST DRAFT.
He put you out with a consciousness that everything you need to become a masterpiece is in you already. We are just like stories that bear all the potential to become an award-winning blockbuster, but our case is a little different.
Our connection with the Creative behind our creation is the essence of our being. In other words, one cannot fully function without the other. This is why, daily, we wake up as first drafts. It’s a reminder of two things.
First and most important. All you have to be, all that you should be, has been embedded in you, but to get the full maximization of all that, the remaining is necessary.
After developing the first draft, and seeing all that needs to be chopped off and added, the draft doesn’t fix itself; it gets fixed by the creative, because the blueprint of what that piece should look like all lies in his mind. We become second drafts, third drafts, production material, award-winning stories, and monumental scripts to be passed down generations, all by the remaining.
Have you discovered something about your life that is worth REMAINING for?
Lastly, there is a path already set for you to follow.
I have written screenplays where, along the way, the stories start writing themselves in my head. The story unfolds to a wider spectrum, and I’m on my laptop screaming like, What the!!! How did you become this??! Those stories are the best ones. It’s like that with us, too.
Along the way, as we journey on in life, our minds and understandings get exposed to the many possibilities that we are. The blueprint gets interpreted to you in a language that you understand, and at the peak of that, you get direction that leads you to the most important discovery of your life.
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you: THE CREATOR’S IDENTITY.
THE CREATOR’S IDENTITY is the discovery that sets us free. It’s the discovery that sets us on a path that makes the Creator marvel at His creation’s outcome. At the core of our being is our identity as Creatives. We are not all called to carry cameras or hold pens, but we all have the mandate to be creatives.
By coming to know the identity we carry, it creates room for creative expression. The doctor who performed surgeries didn’t just do it by all she had read in the textbooks, but by understanding her identity, she became one with the Creator, hence channeling her creative energy to birth solutions.
We are all solutions waiting to be applied, but application doesn’t define us; it is only a means by which people come to identify us. It’s the response to the question, What do you have to offer? What we have to offer isn’t just a skill, a talent, a degree, or an account loaded with money..
..we don’t just offer mundane things, we offer our lives—daily.

Yesss!
Let's have it!
