From Chaos to Calling: A Creative’s Dinner Table
My favourite sport is Football. Football, just like every sport, leaves no room for mediocrity. You’re either in the game or you’re not. You’re either the GOAT… or you’re not CR7.
That felt good 🙂↔️
Just like football, our calling as creatives also permits no mediocrity. However, before you come to the pitch as a baller, there are procedures to pass through.
For creatives? Procedures choke o! LOL. While chatting with a friend, I drew out a chart from a funny audio I heard.
Inner Peace. Dinner Please. Dinner with Peas.
Ironically, it came out of distraction—but today, that very distraction is our focus.
Please tell me you got that joke! LMAOOOOO!
INNER PEACE
Starting from the point of chaos is one thing common with creatives. You see a world void of colour, motion, beauty, then you make it your life’s goal to meet that need.
Here’s a HOOOOTTTTT sizzling tip:
If you find yourself noticing several gaps in your community, or wherever you find yourself, that absence you feel is where your presence should be felt.
For me? I saw two absentees. First was the emptiness of stories, so I made it my life’s goal to tell stories that connect people.
Another was the misinterpretation of the word CREATIVES. I couldn’t stand and watch people feel creatives are only visual artists.
That is how you come to the knowing of your line of creativity. If as a medical practitioner you see a lot of absence or get worried about dentistry, maybe, just maybe dentistry is crying to get your attention.
DINNER PLEASE.
If you pay attention, I have been saying something: CREATIVITY IS A CALLING. It’s not a hobby, or a job, it’s a position you cannot avoid filling.
It is our life, and that’s why when you finally give heed to that voice that cries in your head, and start inclining yourself with what your creativity has to offer, you come to experience some peace.
But it doesn’t end there…
An expression of creativity opens the door to several other expressions. No masterpiece started out looking like a masterpiece, it went through different definitions.
It’s the same with you as a creative. I’m a storyteller today, but what I do today is not what I started out with. Over time, my mind has been fed with several possibilities that bettered my gift.
Answering the call leads you to listening to the voice that takes you on the journey. Excelling in one field should not be a reason why you want to end there, it could just be a bus stop in your journey.
THERE IS A LOT TO WHO YOU ARE!
DINNER WITH PEAS.
THERE IS A LOT TO WHO YOU ARE!
That lot, that lot would eventually lead you to a plot that you settle in.
Some people started out as photographers, and today they are Creative Consultants. Some others started out as Copywriters, but today they are Iconic Filmmakers.
Dinner with peas is your creative reward. It’s the sweet spot where everything you’ve done, everything you’ve been, comes together on one plate.
It is that defining phase of your life where you settle. Where you settle into that container that embodies all you’ve been.
But even in that, you do not meet your end. It is not a climax. It is a curve, one of many that shape your journey. Our journey as Creatives never brings us to an end, it leads us to different routes.
Listening. Watching. Sensing. These are but the few things you must anchor upon.
Listen to yourself.
There is a lot to who you are.
And even more to who you’re becoming.
